Patina: Our Favorite Bronze Watches Of 2024

Published By

I don’t care how rare gold is. In my mind, the proper command structure goes bronze, silver, then gold. At least, that’s how it goes for me when it comes to aesthetics. My favorite thing on my desk, next to my custom Swiss Army knife, is my bronze banker’s lamp.

As such, I’m thrilled that the horology world has served up some of my favorite bronze watches of 2024. See, gold is too conspicuous for me. Silver is diplomatic, easy to get along with, but he’s not as cool as bronze.

Huckberry x Zodiac Bronze Super Sea Wolf Dive Watch

This is for you fans of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. The Zodiac Bronze Super Sea Wolf is basically vintage diving gear reformatted into a modern Swiss sport watch. Literally. It’s inspired by those superhero-esque bronze helmets from the ‘50s and ‘60s.

It’s a true explorer’s watch, unsurprisingly since it’s a collab with the adventurers over at Huckberry. Only 182 pieces, by the way. The metallic bezel complements the texturing on the face the same way the helmet-like crown does the sharp, arrow-like dial details.

Tudor Black Bay 58 Bronze

Few color palettes balance cool and class the way the root beer palette does. And isn’t that balance what we love about the Tudor Black Bay 58 in general? The bronze body and the way the brown dial is both matte yet gradated are a superb partnership.

The iconic snowflake hands and guardless crown are there (of course). In addition to its COSC-certified movement (naturally), I want to also point out the new clasp. It allows you to quickly adjust the length of the bracelet at five levels.

Baltic Aquascaphe Bronze

As the case of the Baltic Aquascaphe patinates over time, it essentially becomes customized with your specific story. Plus, whoever said that black and brown don’t mix has never seen this cleverly-designed diver. Onyx clouds surround the umber center dial, making the transition from brown to black natural and engaging.

The polished black bezel and shiny build further cinch the watch’s refined sportiness. These thoroughbred workhorses also come with a blue or black dial if that’s more your speed.

Omega Seamaster 300 Bronze Gold

I’m protective of the tentpole Seamaster designs, both the wave dial and the broad arrow templates. Though usually skeptical of remixes, this Omega Seamaster 300 in bronze gold works on so many levels. The copper tone levels up the fanciness, while maintaining the broad arrow template’s fundamentally sporty design in a way a true gold tone wouldn’t.

It almost serves as a leveled-up hat-tip to the tropical aesthetic, honoring the fact this is a used, tried-and-true, forefather of a design. Even more, this Master Chronometer with a viewable movement is one of the few Seamaster renditions that I think goes best with a brown leather strap.

Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical Bronze

By upgrading the Khaki Field in bronze, Hamilton serves up a delightful, satisfying anachronism, akin to seeing George Washington cross the Delaware in an F-35A fighter jet. The 38-millimeter Khaki Field always honored its military heritage by giving us the true experience of a vintage field watch minus the vintage hassle. Though visually unique, the belovedly tactile 80-hour manual-wind still allows you to bond with the watch.

Longines Legend Diver Bronze

Mixing emerald hues with shiny bronze is swank personified. By implementing this combo, Longines imbues their Legend Diver with a wheeling-and-dealing, retro-adjacent class. You can wear this watch on a yacht, at a Monte Carlo casino, or you can just bring that ritz with you to your everyday office job. And that black, bowed inner bezel surrounding the murky, line-forward green dial? Chef’s kiss.

  • Case Size: 42mm
  • Case Thickness: 12.7mm

Undone Basecamp Cali Bronze Automatic

The Basecamp Cali Bronze over at Undone is eclectic and, dare I say, even hip. However, those youthful qualities are smoothed out by its downright monumental construction. The multiple levels and shapes on the almost-robotic bezel and beautifully swervy case are rife with patina potential.

Meanwhile, the California dial and Mercedes hands sit elegantly against a sophisticated honeycomb background. It’s this balance that allows you to pair it with a sporty and casual nylon strap, though I believe a bronze bracelet would bring out its sculptural features.

  • Case Size: 40mm
  • Case Thickness: 15mm

Shinola Bronze Monster Automatic

The Shinola Bronze Monster Automatic is inspired by the Prohibition era and therefore is designed with the boldness of the past’s speakeasy providers. It’s not obnoxiously in your face, but this watch has the presence and athletic build of an American muscle car.

Its brushed bronze case perfectly accents the highly-legible black dial, which is brilliantly lumed. Between that and the AR-coated domed sapphire, you can tell the time at a glance from any angle. Another cool quality? Those quick release straps. You can instantly transform this timepiece with a khaki nylon or a rustic and handsome teak leather.

  • Price: $1,850
  • Case Size: 43mm
  • Case Thickness: 15.2mm

IWC Pilot’s Watch Spitfire Chronograph

With its graceful color combination and impeccable attention to detail, you just might get away with wearing the IWC Pilot as a dress watch, despite its chronograph face. This Spitfire chrono flaunts a silky dial with even silkier subdials in a gorgeous moss tone. It’s the kind of watch a gentleman racer would wear with his dinner jacket.

Remarkably, the white sword hands, outlined in bronze of course, and Arabic numerals allow for easy reading on the otherwise busy dial. And to top it off, it’s paired with a lush calfskin strap, perfectly aligned with the dial’s pragmatic yet classy design.

  • Case Size: 41mm
  • Case Thickness: 15.3mm

Oris Divers Sixty-Five Date in Bronze

The bronze rendition of the Oris Divers Sixty-Five Date is an overall civilized watch with just enough opulence to make it stand out. You can wear it as an everyday watch that’s just a bit more special than the other guy’s everyday watch.

Still, that attractive obsidian dial mixed with the shine and details of the bronze bezel lend itself to a New Year’s Eve vibe, but far more tempered. And since this is Oris, its spec-forward build includes 100 meters of water resistance, a double-domed sapphire, and a finely, exquisitely textured rubber strap.
