There was a time when audio equipment was immersed in beautiful design — the gramophone, old school JBLs, the Quad Electrostatic Speaker — and while we’re not saying the efficient delivery of music could ever be a bad thing, something was lost when cherrywood cabinets and muted fabric grills gave way to black plastic boxes. Danish audio maker Bang & Olufsen has been keeping visual design top of mind for about 100 years and their latest bluetooth speaker, the Beosound Level, doubles down on that endeavor.
You get your pick of a gold aluminum grille or a textured black fabric cover, both of which manage to look modern and classic at the same time. The modular design lets you replace the batteries (which means your $1,800 investment isn’t tied to the short lifespan of a battery) and every full charge will give you 16 hours of playback.
As for the audio, five-drivers deliver immersive sound while the audio adapts to the position of the speaker. Lay it on its back and feel the bass rumble, stand it on its side for super clarity, or hang it on the wall (with the optional, unobtrusive wall brackets) to get room-filling sound immersion — from a flawlessly attractive package.
