Every Friday, we’ll hook you up with a playlist of tracks we’re listening to in the office and into the weekend.
Scrappy, low-budget, lo-fi, DIY — all that plus a move away from giant record labels gave indie rock its name. Like any worthy genre, the rules have bent and the parameters have stretched. But indie rock sets itself apart by having that stripped down feel, the sense that a track was recorded in someone’s Brooklyn apartment.
We grabbed a small selection of the vast number of indie tracks out there (with a focus on indie rock’s golden years in the early aughts) and put them together for a guitar laden, unpolished, unapologetically listenable playlist.
